Ford has some big plans in the mix for their new line of lightweight GT model, which is rumored to be hitting the streets fairly soon. From what information has been released thus far, the Ford GT Lightweight model is soon to arrive.
Official Updates from Ford
While there are no official updates on the latest GT model just yet, there should be some released to the public soon enough. All of the specifications and characteristics that have been leaked thus far are good enough to get your imagination going so far, but hopefully, Ford will make an official update within the next upcoming couple of weeks.
What We Can Expect
As far as official statements and releases go, not much has been officially said. However, the Ford GT manual has dropped some hints regarding what the Lightweight model will be like when compared to the original line. As far as we can tell, after the design and manufacturing can be fully completed, the Ford GT Lightweight model is soon to arrive.
For example, the rear hatch will be different, the key-blade for opening said hatch will not be featured, and there will be no remote hatch release. Ford has crafted a completely new key fob in the plans to ensure the overall design is more desirable.
The latch system is a completely different story. It will be much different when compared to Ford’s GTE racing model, which is where one of the biggest general hints have come from. This hint is that the new model will be much lighter than any other from the GT line, therefore being dubbed the “Lightweight model”.
In fact, the latch system will be fastened on using an AeroCatch style locking hood pin, which isn’t seen very much these days, if at all. Ford definitely has some interesting designs going with the new model, so it’ll be interesting to see what comes out in the end. More information about the new design, what we can expect further down the line, pricing, and all other important information to be released soon enough.
Just from the manual Ford has released, we can see that there are going to be some major changes in the mix, and most likely for the better.
Spotted in Florida
During the Rolex 24 during this passing January, Ford showcased the Ford GT series, one of which may have been the Lightweight model specifically, in Florida of the United States.

“The Ford GT includes racing in the bloodstream. Our Competition Series has been developed with our overly hardcore enthusiasts where the track is concerned in mind.
