The New Vauxhall Astra Hatchback is Coming October 2015

The new Vauxhall Astra hatchback does not follow the trend of newer car models today and is smaller in size compared to its predecessor on the outside. Full details of the new Vauxhall Astra hatchback were published in Fleet News recently. Interior dimensions of this car are now bigger. That includes rear leg room and greater distance between the rear and front hip points. This new Astra is 200kg lighter than its predecessor. Almost 130kg was attributed to less mass in the exhaust and braking systems, increased use of lighter, high-strength steel, reduced tyre diameter and weight, and lighter powertrains. Improvement of the car’s weight distribution can be seen in the relocation of the car’s battery from the engine bay to under the rear seats. As a result of all the weight reduction changes applied to the car, it now has better handling, agility, reduced whole life costs, reduced company car tax, better fuel economy, and lower carbon dioxide emissions.

For diesel, the engine power outputs will fall somewhere from 110hp to 136hp. For petrol, it will range between 105hp to 150hp. The 2.0-litre CDTi has been dropped while the 1.6-litre CDTi is now available in 136hp and 110hp outputs. Carbon dioxide outputs are from 99g/km for the 136hp and 94g/km for the 110hp variant. However, carbon dioxide emission increases with the larger wheels offered on Elite and SRi Models. A super-efficient Ecoflex version of the 110hp 1.6-litre CDTi will boost the diesel line-up early in 2016 with a combined fuel economy of 91.1mpg and carbon dioxide emissions from 82g/km. A 1.4T engine is available in 150hp and 125hp variants, with CO2 from 128g/km and 124g/km respectively. Safety wise, a five-star rating is targeted by Vauxhall in the Euro NCAP crash tests. This car has a seatbelt reminder on all seats, a centre rear headrest and pre-tensioners on all seatbelts. A front camera system is included to boost its safety measures. The system includes an autonomous emergency braking, lane keeping assistance, forward collision alert, and traffic sign recognition. Further details and pricing on this car can be found here.
