The public is still electrified by the unveiling of the Tesla Model 3, a new product of the famous company that aims to offer an affordable car model to the public. So far, over 300,000 preorders have been made and the car is expected to make a huge impact on the market for electric cars. But, at the same time, the company is still focused on developing and enhancing the Model S. This sports sedan is a highly sought after vehicle in the luxury electric car niche. With the official announcement pending in a few days, the tech news outlets began combing sources for any viable information on the changes that the model S refresh is going to bring about. When these reports are summarized, they can begin to sketch out the new features of the vehicle.
The first change represents the option of a larger 100 kWh battery, which is one of the reasons why the update of Model S software is called P100D. Currently, the Model S with largest available battery provides 90 kWh and these can be found in Model S P90, but also in the Model S P90D. So far, it remains unclear if the same battery will be found in all new Model S variations, or just in the performance model labeled with D. In any case, the 100 kWh battery will provide multiple benefits, but the most important will be the potential of the charge when it comes to mileage of the vehicle.
Bioweapon Defense Mode
It is also rumored that the model will include a ventilation mode called “Bioweapon Defense“, which is an on-board system for air filtration that is supposed to stop germs, toxins, and other harmful airborne material. This new feature is probably the best known because some news agencies got wind of this change several months ago. At first, the company downplayed its somewhat dramatic name for the mode, explaining that it only represents an advanced air filter setup, not the fact that Tesla Company really expects that their vehicles will be used in a biohazard environment.
Interior, Exterior and Price Changes
As for the car’s interior, there are suggestions that the Model S will feature a more luxurious design of the cabin. This should bring the model closer to other cars in its price range, including having ventilated leather seats. For some time, critics of the Model S complained that the car price provides somewhat lacking internal decoration and seems that the designers decided to correct this with the Model S refresh. On the car’s front mask, new LED headlamps should appear and the overall body should be available in new colors. The nose of the vehicle is also going to see some modifications and adjustments. The last feature should be the one that did not make a lot of potential customers happy: the new Model S sports sedan will be somewhat more expensive than expected. The prices bump is still undefined, but there is almost no uncertainty that it will occur with all of the new versions of the model. In spite of the larger price tag, there is no doubt that the Tesla Model S refresh will definitely provide an interesting option for all those who are looking for a high-end electric car.
