After years of speculation and rumors, the day has come. Tesla Motors has unveiled its latest model, the Tesla Model 3, at Tesla Design Studio in Hawthorne, California.
Tesla CEO Elon Musk has introduced their latest masterpiece. Some say it's the most highly anticipated car of the year. The $35,000 Model 3 sedan made its official debut at the company’s big event in March.
Thousands of Tesla fans lined up in front of the company’s retail outlets, hoping to be among the first to avail the $1,000 down payment for the Model 3.
This new breed of Tesla is a $35,000 mass-market vehicle that is specifically designed to deliver the company's cars to the mass market, which already includes electric models from companies like BMW and Nissan.
Tesla CEO Elon Musk hit the stage to make the big announcement. Musk revealed to the world that the '3' will have at least 215 miles of range, the ability to sprint from 0-60 miles in just six seconds, and noted that the car has supercharging features.
It will, of course, include some of the core features that define Tesla, which include a dashboard touchscreen, and performance tweaks through over-the-air firmware updates and sophisticated sensors. The Model 3 will also have autopilot hardware, and the like its older sibling the Model S, the Model 3 will also have front and rear trunks. The car has a very unique look. The roof area is made up of “one continuous pane of glass”. Other features include adaptive cruise control, as well as automatic lane changing and parking. Deliveries will begin at the end of 2017.
In addition, Tesla will also increase the number of public superchargers currently available, doubling the number from 36,000 to 72,000 power stations.
