Mercedes Joins The Electric Car Game With a Futuristic Concept

Mercedes-Benz has finally joined the electric car race and has plans to launch a new line of battery-powered vehicles by the end of this year.

The automaker giant made a huge news last week when it teased its latest car project, the Vision Mercedes Maybach 6 coupe concept.

Named for its 6-meter length, the Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6 is an all-electric vehicle. This two-door, two-passenger coupe design will have four 738-horsepower electric motors. It can reach 62 mph in just 4 seconds and has a range of more than 200 miles.

The car’s electric motors are backed by an 80-kilowatt-hour battery that can be charged either by being plugged in or by the wireless charging system.

It features a proud, prominent grille on the front, 24-inch wheels with transparent panels, dual rear window, narrow side mirrors and spine-like divide along the back make the car extremely distinctive.

The interior is stocked with modern technology including massive touchscreens that can show driving-related and geographical information. The car’s windshield also serves as a head-up display that can be operated through gesture controls.

According to Mercedes executives, the car’s enormous hood, low roofline, and its rear-positioned passenger compartment are meant to be a reinterpretation of classic, aesthetic principles" while still exhibiting an aerodynamic design.

In addition, the car has sensors in the seats that can read body temperature and adjust the A/C accordingly.

Maybach 6 is the latest product unveiled since the German automaker reignited the Daimler-owned Maybach line. Mercedes has discontinued the Maybach lines in December 2012 after years of making the type of stately European-style schooners that power famous persons such as Jay-Z and Swizz Beatz.

The Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6 made its official debut at the 2016 Monterey Car Week in Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. The car event that showcases the most beautiful and expensive cars ever made.
