Memory Lane Museum of Vintage Racecars

Currently, Memory Lane Museum, located in Mooresville, North Carolina, boasts the largest exhibition of vintage racecars, including NASCAR, in existence. Racecar enthusiasts will enjoy wandering among vintage automobiles from the early days of stock-car racing. Youngsters and adults that are child at heart, will enjoy viewing the soap box derby cars collection and racing go-karts. The museum also has a collection of drag and sprint race cars.

Original prop cars from movie sets, such as the one George Clooney drove in 2008 in the movie “Leatherheads,” and the racecar that Will Ferrell drove in the 2006 movie, “Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby,” are on display at the museum. Many of NASCAR’S prestigious drivers are represented with retired cars. Bill Elliott, Dale Earnhardt, Ralph Earnhardt, Tim Flock, Harry Gant, Jeff Gordon, Junior Johnson, Alan Kulwicki, Terry Labonte, Lee Petty, Richard Petty, Darrell Waltrip and Cale Yarborough have retired cars on display at the museum. There are at least six Petty racecars to view.

True racing fans will enjoy the racecar film footage shown in the onsite theater. A variety of race car memorabilia t-shirts, caps, car tags, models, and many rare one-of-a-kind items are available for sale in the souvenir shop. Visitors are sure to find the perfect gift for any occasion for the racecar fan. There is a mechanic shop on the grounds that sells 2016 raced tires, rims, and other parts at an affordable price.

Visitors pay a $10 entry fee for a self-guided tour. Nostalgic visitors may wish to quiz the knowledgeable staff. The friendly museum employees are always willing to answer questions posed by inquisitive museum patrons. The museum boasts historical automobiles, some from the early 1900’s. Perhaps some of the cars were chased by a revenuer or two during the height of the moonshine era. On occasion, race car legends, such as Bobby Allison are known to visit the museum.

Summary:  Memory Lane Museum of Vintage Racecars is definitely a trip worth adding to the bucket list for a racecar or antique car aficionado.
