Meet Camaro ZL1: Chevrolet's Newest Muscle Car

Chevrolet has finally unveiled the newest member of its Camaro family, the high-performance 2017 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1.

The Camaro ZL1 is the first GM car to offer the new 10-speed automatic transmission, and its 200 pounds lighter than its predecessor thanks to the new vehicle architecture called Alpha platform lighter architecture that promises better handling.

Mark Reuss, executive vice president of Global Product Development, said in a statement, ”It’s a 2+2 coupe offering incredible performance – acceleration, handling and braking – with the highest levels of technology and perfect chassis damping, making it suitable for everyday driving. It will compare well to any sports coupe, at any price and in any setting.”

Powering the new muscle car is a supercharged 6.2-liter V8 LT4 engine with tailored intake and exhaust systems. The engine is rated at an estimated 640 lb-ft. of torque (868 Nm) and 640 horsepower. It features an upgraded Magnetic Ride Suspension, Launch Control and Driver Select Mode, electronic limited-slip differential, and Performance Traction Management.

The Camaro ZL1 also gets a few aerodynamic upgrades, which include a larger lower grille for greater airflow, an iconic Bow Tie, a wing-style rear spoilers and wider front fenders.  In addition to the aerodynamic upgrades, the brand also added a new updated hood with a carbon-fiber insert, a large front splitter, a unique rocker panels and a heat extractor.

Inside the car you’ll find a unique Recaro front seat, a suede flat-bottom steering wheel and shift knob, and an optional Performance Data Recorder.

For better performance on the track, the car is fitted with Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercar tires in 285/30ZR20 front and 305/30ZR20 rear. There’s also a Bembo brakes with 6-piston front calipers, dual-mode exhaust, and 11 heat exchangers for optimal powertrain cooling.

Scheduled to make its debut at the 2016 New York Auto Show, the Camaro ZL1 will go on sales later this year. Details about pricing are yet available, but General Motors (Chevrolet parent company) has given us enough information to give the Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 a proper rundown.

Founded in 1911 and headquartered in Michigan, Detroit, Chevrolet produces and sells a wide range of vehicles, from subcompact vehicles to medium-duty commercial trucks.
