Remember Henrik Fisker? The famed Danish automotive designer, best known for his creation of iconic luxury cars such as Aston Martin DB9, Aston Martin V8 Vantage, and the ill-fated Fisker Karma.
Fisker’s previous company, Fisker Automotive, produced the stunning but ill-fated Fisker Karma. The car has failed to meet the promised performance and reliability set by the company. But with Fisker newly-built company, the Fisker Inc., the legendary designer gets another shot at delivering on his lofty goals.
According to the company, the Fisker EMotion is designed to achieve an all-electric 400-mile range and a 161 mph top speed. This will be made possible through the fast-charging graphene-based hybrid ultra-capacitors technology, currently being developed at UCLA.
The Fisker EMotion, which looks like a softer version of the original Fisker Karma EV, will feature a composite, carbon fiber and aluminum body works with an innovative battery integration. The EMotion’s styling borrows from the late Fisker Karma, but the more assertive front-end styling and the aggressively-looking sculptured sides separate the EMotion from its predecessor.
The new EV vehicle highlights new styles and proportions for today’s luxury sports car category with a large curved windscreen, dihedral doors, integrated spoiler, low hood line, and sculptural body. To aid aerodynamics, the car features an integrated spoiler and functional diffuser. The new powertrain layout allows a longer wheelbase and more spacious passenger area, complete with infotainment features for all seats.
Previous teaser images also suggest that Fisker might be working on an opening procedure to take on Tesla Model X’s falcon wing door. According to reports, Fisker’ new model uses opposing front and rear butterfly doors that swing up and open, just like in McLaren P1.
In addition to the new battery technology, the new car will also be equipped with adaptive LED headlights and a fully autonomous driving tech from a mysterious tech partner.
The Fisker EMotion is scheduled to be built in the company’s existing facility in California. Deliveries will be announced after the vehicle’s official debut in 2017.
