Buick has launched its latest and most fuel-efficient sedan, the Buick LaCrosse Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV). The new car has been designed exclusively for the Chinese market.
The Buick LaCrosse HEV, which makes its debut this week at the 2016 Beijing Auto Show, is based on the fully upgraded 2017 LaCrosse that debuted in 2015 at the Los Angeles Auto Show.
The LaCrosse HEV uses a 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine along with a 1.5 kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery pack located in the trunk of the car. The engine displacement and battery-pack size are similar to those of the 2016 Chevrolet Malibu Hybrid.
The car integrates design cues from the Avenir Concept including the grille, vented fenders, and chrome trim. It also features the new Buick logo, which is located at the rear end. Inside the new car, you find the same interiors as the standard LaCrosse, where the wraparound dashboard comes with ash-wood trimming on the center console. It also fitted with the latest 8-inch IntelliLink infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto technology.
For better driving experience, the company has given its new LaCrosse HEV the most advanced technologies in the industry, which include electronic climate control compressor, exhaust thermal energy recycling, electronic power steering and active grille shutters.
The company didn’t list total system output, but reports say that the Buick LaCrosse HEV will likely do from 0 to 62 mph in just 8.9 seconds. The car is reported to have an estimated fuel economy of 50 mpg, which is about 4.7 litres per 100 kilometres. The HEV comes with a 35% decrease in fuel consumption.
Hybrid cars like the new Buick LaCrosse HEV are likely to become more common across the Chinese market now that the country’s National VI fuel economy and emissions standards are set to be implemented throughout the whole country.
The Chinese government plans to speed up implementations of its new National VI fuel economy and emission standard, which will bring the country in line with the US and European standards. The new rules on fuel economy and emission standard weren’t supposed to take full effect until 2020, but it will now be rolled out in several major Chinese cities by next year.
The 2017 Buick LaCrosse HEV marks the company’s latest push into hybrid green technologies.
