Range Rover Velar

Range Rovers have always been marked as pinnacle of Luxury when it comes to SUV’s that can do it all. The Range Rover segment was started in 1970 as a Luxury Vehicle division of Land Rover. This was done to attract premium buyers who only thought Land Rovers were mundane work horses. Now, in its fourth iteration, Range Rover has expanded to different designs by the way of Range Rover Evoque, Range Rover Sport, and Range Rover.

The problem, however, was the wide price band gap between Sport and Evoque. The price difference between the two models is a staggering $40,000. This is where Range Rover Velar comes in. In 2017 Geneva Motor Show, JLR showcased the new Velar which will slot in between Range Rover Sport and Evoque and it is a show stopper.

The New Velar brings futuristic tech and effective form factor together in a seamless fashion. Velar is launched in US with gasoline powered 247bhp engine or a diesel powered 177bhp engine. There is a third variant called the “First Edition” that comes with range topping 3 litre supercharged engine churning out 380bhp. Power from the engines is transferred to wheels via an eight-speed automatic gearbox.

Velar has not been left out on the luxury front too. The interiors are upholstered with combination of Light Oyster and Ebony perforated leather. Seats are powered in twenty-two ways with heating and cooling functions. There are 23 speakers stereo setup inside the vehicle that assists in aural nirvana. But the most beautiful part of Velar inside is the Interactive Driver Display that adds two 10inch touchscreens in the instrument panel for viewing all the information of the car.

Velar comes with Land Rover’s patented “Terrain Response 2” traction technologies providing it with All Terrain Progress Control, Low Traction Launch, Hill Descent Control and Gradient Release Control.

Velar marks a new chapter in Range Rover history as it is the fourth vehicle to come out of the Range Rover stable and probably the most interesting one.
