Mercedes-Benz is one of the most prestigious car manufacturing companies in the world. They aim to outdo themselves every single time. They research and develop technology that can completely revolutionize the automobile industry. Recently, Tobias, of Mercedes Benz, spoke about the upcoming Mercedes-AMG R50 hypercar. He was very excited to tell us that we should look forward to the car that will be launched in 2018.
Tobias mentioned that the next big thing at AMG is already in the pipeline. The idea for the company is to create an AMG performance hybrid that will feature Mercedes’ Formula 1 drivetrain technology. He also added that AMG will lead other performance companies to join forces and create a brilliant AMG that will be revered as a hypercar. The car will have a futuristic design to match its state-of-art technology.
The reasons are clear; the hypercar has a 1000 hp F1-derived hybrid powertrain. It will be showcased at the 2017 Paris Motor Show. The hypercar will probably be a street-legal F1 car, as it will be equipped with most of the Formula 1 technology. The car is lightweight, and the power to weight ratio is assumed to be 1 kg per 1 hp. The 4-cylinder car has a high specific output that most racers would enjoy exploring.
The F1-derived 2.0-liter turbocharged will use two electric motors. One on its front axle and the other bolted straight to the transmission. The hypercar will most probably have a fully variable active suspension, rear axle steering, and an all-wheel drive with torque vectoring.
When it comes to the interior of the car, it will have a low driver’s seat that will be fixed in place and a futuristic display.
Tobias also mentioned that the rumors of the car having a 1200 hp engine were false and that they are not going to collaborate with Lotus.
Mercedes-Benz plans to build about 200 to 300 units of the hypercar. It will be launched during AMG’s 50th anniversary!
